Dr. Gary P. Halada is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of the Laboratory for Surface Analysis and Corrosion Science in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stony Brook University. He has over sixty publications, including several chapters in technical books and papers in a number of international materials=20 research journals. He is also director of the undergraduate program in Engineering Science, and a principal investigator or co-principal investigator for research programs in state-of-the-art materials and coatings development, nanoscale engineering, and environmental sciences, as well as for education programs from the middle school to the graduate level. Gary also has a long term association with science fiction at Stony Brook, having been one of the founders of ICON (as a committee member for the first ten or so conventions), a former three-term president and head librarian of the Science Fiction Forum, one of the originators of Destinies (the voice of science fiction on WUSB and currently one of the longest running science fiction radio shows anywhere), and one of the proud few who can claim to have attended every ICON (while remaining reasonably sane).
