Apr 12, 2006 - Site Downtime - Some of you may have noticed problems with the I-CON site over the past few days. We have been having hardware issues with our server, which have now been resolved. Mar 22, 2006 - Important Travel Update! - The Suffolk County Half Marathon will be taking place this Sunday, resulting in closures on Nichols Road between the Long Island Expressway and Rt. 347. Please use these directions to get to the convention on Sunday.

Mar 22, 2006 - New I-CON Community - ICON Science Fiction, Inc. is proud to announce its new project, community.iconsf.org. Designed to encourage community involvement and the open sharing of ideas and information, community.iconsf.org is our new hub for everyone who is interested in Science Fiction, Fact, and Fantasy (and Gaming, Anime, and everything else you might see at I-CON - and likely a whole lot more!). We encourage you all to stop in, take a look, and speak your mind - this site was created to allow you to immerse yourself further in the things that matter to you (and us).

Anime Cosplay Competition

Rules and Terms:

  1. You must be registered for I-CON 25 to enter.
  2. All cosplay entries MUST be appropriate for a Family Convention, all skits must be PG-13, and swearing is not allowed.
  3. Anyone under the age of 18 must have written permission from a parent or legal guardian. Forms can be picked up at Sign-In or downloaded from the I-CON website (form coming soon), under the Anime Masquerade link.
  4. Registration for the competition will be available online and is required regardless of which section of the competition you are entering. Empty slots are available on a first come, first serve basis on Saturday before the Masquerade, the time for late registration will be posted in the program guide.
  5. By registering, you are allowing I-CON to use your image for promotional purposes.
  6. Anything that is not Anime, Manga, or video game related requires prior permission from the Anime Track Staff. If you have questions if your character will be eligible, email us at Anime@iconsf.org. Live action characters and J-pop artists require permission.
  7. All participants must bring a visual reference with them for their cosplay, which will be collected at Sign-in.
  8. All participants who are bringing music with them, it must be on a CD in either .wav or MP3 format.
  9. I-CON reserves the right to exclude any submission from presentation, At Will, with or without "cause".
  10. Skits cannot be any longer than 3-4 minutes and groups cannot be anymore that 8 people.
  11. Craftsmanship entries are subject to specific guidelines:
    1. Costumes must be made by the entrant.
    2. Costumes made by professionals, bought off E-Bay, or any other place is strictly prohibited.
    3. Costumes put together from store bought items are allowed (example - a tennis skirt and a blouse to create a "sailor suit"). However, if you did not assemble the outfit, you will not be eligible for a craftsmanship award.
    4. You can only submit one outfit per person.
    5. You must be wearing your cosplay during judging. Be prepared to answer questions about your costume. Any photos or other documentation about your costume and its creation must be presented at this time.
  12. You MUST Sign-In with the Judges once before the Masquerade, at designated times, which will be e-mailed to you upon registration and posted in the program guide.
    1. All members of your skit group must be present and preferably in costume at the time of signing in.
    2. Have your visual reference for your cosplay at Sign-in.
  13. There will be a short prep meeting before the Masquerade. Come in costume and be ready to go onstage. The time will be posted at Sign-In.
  14. Have fun with it. and also - good luck and happy sewing/happy skit writing. We look forward to every submission.

Feb 2, 2006 - Memorial Fundraiser - A fundraiser in memorial of Johnny Madonia, the son of a long time I-CON staffer, is being held to benefit the Child Life Program at Stony Brook University Hospital which helps to ease the stay of children in the hospital via entertainment and help them adjust to returning to school after leaving the hospital.
