TV Programming
Vintage Japanese Osamu Tezuka Cartoons Rarities from the early 60s
Astro Boy
The famous b/w cartoon that follows the adventures of a small robot
created in the image of a scientist dead son and the adventures he gets into
on his quest to discover his humanity as he saves the world from criminals,
aliens and assorted monsters.
The Amazing 3
This b/w lost rarity tells the story of three alien patrolmen who come to
earth after Galactic Control determines that humanity is too dangerous and
warlike to exist and give the 3 instructions to study humans for a year and
judge if they should be allowed to live or be destroyed by their powerful
"solar bomb".
To accomplish their mission they assume the guise of 3 animals so they can
move among mankind unnoticed; Captain Bonnie their commander becomes a
rabbit, Corporal Ronnie their engineer becomes a horse and Lieutenant Zero
a malcontent who did not want to come on the mission becomes a duck.
Accompanying them is their friend Kenny a human boy who saved their lives
when their flying saucer first lands on earth.
Kimba
Kimba is one of the earliest imported color cartoons and follows the saga of
Kimba the White Lion as he journeys back to Africa to recapture his father
Caesar's kingdom. After being born onboard the boat carrying his mother to
a zoo, he escapes when the boat sinks and returns to Africa, there he meets
Caesar's old friends Bucky Deer and Pauley Cracker the parrot, who are led
by old Dan'l Baboon. Together they try to help Kimba realize his place as
the young Prince, but Kimba is impressed by human civilization and he wants
to create a similar animal civilization where animals will not have to prey
on each other and can grow food on farms so they can all live in peace.
Marine Boy
Another early color import that showcases the many adventures of Marine
Boy the son of a famous scientist and member of Ocean Patrol Headquarters
who are responsible for making the oceans of the world safe. The main patrol
boat, the P1 is led by Marine Boy and 2 crew members: Piper and
Bolton. His main weapon is a sonic boomerang that he keeps in a pouch on his
arm, and he moves through the water as fast as the marine life with
propeller shoes. He can breath underwater by chewing "oxygum". His other
friends are Splasher, a white dolphin, and Neptina, a mermaid, and together
they help him in his adventures, saving the oceans from trouble.
Star Maidens
The US Premiere of the 1976 RARE Cult favorite "Star Maidens" starring
actors Judy Geeson, Christiane Kruger, Pierre Brice and Gareth Thomas who
many Sci Fi fans know was Blake in Terry Nation's Blake's 7.
This show has never before been seen in the US and was an instant cult
favorite soon after it was made. It questioned in a fun way the
stereotypical roles men and women have in society when the planet Medusa, an
advanced society run by women, gets caught in our solar system and the
culture shock that follows.
Doctor Who
Also back this year are some fantastic Doctor Who Recons from the people
at Loose Cannon.
A nice selection of several reconstructions of the missing stories of the
early Doctors, William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton, will be shown at
selected times this I-CON, so check the schedule.
