Elizabeth Mezzacappa, Ph.D. is an eclectically trained scientist. In 2008 she and Gordon Cooke received a "Best Paper" Award at the bienniel Army Science Conference in the category of Behavioral Science and Human Performance. She has also chaired panels examining computer simulation and modeling and social network analysis. She is an 1988 alumnus of the International Space University and received a pre-doctoral fellowship from NASA to research group dynamics relevant to space crews. This happened because her graduate advisor didn't blink when she said she wanted to be a psychologist on the moon. She is the world's leading expert on the maternal physiological, psychological, and health effects of nursing an infant. However, because research on mothers and babies is way too controversial to fund, she is a scientist at the Target Behavioral Response Laboratory at Picatinny Arsenal, conducting ridiculously complex experiments on human behavior in response to non-lethal weapons. Liza lives in Edison (yes, of Thomas Alva fame), NJ with husband John, 19-year old daughter Lucia, and 9 year-old son Philip. |
