Robert I. Katz
Novelist and Professor of Anesthesiology


Robert I. Katz, MD, is Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Vice-Chairman for Administration, Department of Anesthesiology, State University of New York at Stony Brook. The author of over 50 scientific publications, he is an authority on Quality Assurance and Resource Utilization in Medicine. Dr. Katz is the author of three published novels. His first, a science fiction novel entitled Edward Maret: A Novel of the Future, was chosen by Paul Levinson, former President of Science Fiction Writers of America, as the third best first novel he has ever read. Edward Maret received numerous favorable reviews, was chosen by Booksense as one of the notable science fiction novels of 2001 and won the ASA Literary Award for 2001. Dr. Katz is the author of the Kurtz and Barent mystery series (Surgical Risk, The Anatomy Lesson), the third of which will be released late in 2008. Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine wrote of The Anatomy Lesson, "...the expertly realized background and solid professionalism of the prose and dialogue mark Katz a writer to watch."
