Volunteering at I-CON is a great way to meet people, make new friends and see what goes on behind the scenes. Volunteer just 10 hours of your time during the convention and get your admission for FREE.

How old do I have to be to volunteer at I-CON?

You must be at least 16 years old to be a general volunteer. Setup/ Breakdown volunteers must be 18 years old. Any volunteer under 18 years old must have the parental consent section signed by a parent/guardian in order to volunteer. You will be required to have a photo id (school or driver license) There is a refundable $30 fee you will get back as soon as you have completed your hours.

How many hours am I expected to work?

You will be expected to complete 10 hours. Not completing these hours will result in you not getting your deposit back and not being eligible to volunteer again for 2 years. You will have ample time to see panels, lectures, games, guests and demos.

What do I do as an I-CON volunteer

General Volunteers
General volunteers run errands, keep non-attendees out of convention areas, supervise audio/visual programming. In addition, general volunteers help with setup of major programming during the convention.

Setup/Breakdown
Setup/Breakdown volunteers help with the huge task of setting up for the convention and cleaning up afterward. As this job may involve lifting or work with power tools, this is why we require setup/breakdown volunteers to be at least 18 years old. There will be a limited number of openings for setup, and will be offered on a first come first serve basis

What is in it for me?

All ICON volunteers who complete 10 hours get free I-CON membership. In addition volunteering is a great way to meet people, make new friends and see what goes on behind the scenes. In some cases you may prove yourself invaluable to a specific track and they may ask you back the next year. We also may qualify for community service credits with your school or groups, please notify us ahead of time if this is the case for instructions if you intend to use these hours for this purpose.

I want to work with my friend/family member/significant other/evil twin, is this possible?

We try our best to make every effort to make our volunteers happy, and to schedule them when and where they want to work. However, during peak convention hours and/or times when we have a shortage of volunteers, this may not be possible and we ask that you understand.

Can I do my hours in costume?

Yes, you may do your hours in costume. However, keep costumes PG rate. There are many families that attend I-CON. Also, do not bring anything that may look like a gun or thrown weapons. All weapons must be peace-bonded to your costume.
